I will never forget this day for as long as I live. This was in the month of January 2018 on a beautiful sunny day that I spent watching this beautiful northern hawk owl. The forest he picked for his temporary winter home was idea as it backed onto a swampy bog.
This day in particular I was watching him, I heard some dogs barking in the forest so I looked to see what was going on. When I went to look back at this gorgeous owl he vanished.
(Keep in mind trying to get a flight shot is near impossible as there's little warning and he's as fast as a speeding bullet)
A lovely local who came every day to photograph the owl started talking to me. I explained to him how I have no idea where the owl went, he was just right here. 60 seconds after saying that he flew onto this perch 20 feet from us with his fresh kill from the bog.
It blows my mind how he can hear things we never could.
I felt so blessed he chose to eat his dinner in front of us, we stood there in utter awe & eternally grateful.

EXCELLENT capture Heather - although he may not be too happy that you interrupted his dinner! Definitely a fave for me.

This is so exactly what Feather brings me and leaves for us just outside our back door. A mole. A nice fat one. Only Feather doesn't eat them, but I've watched her play with them for fifteen minutes....and throw them about even after they're "gone". Nature. Got to really enjoy every detail...and you do....this is a great photo!!! F/L++

Wow Nancy, that's incredible this is the same kind or rodent that your dear Feather brings for you and leaves outside your back door! It's a mole? I'm not rodent literate so thanks for telling me:) Must be a hoot to watch Feather play with them for 15 whole minutes. I will post a few more of him and his mole, but without the gruesome details ♥
