Believe it or not this photo was taken at dusk. I got a lead on one of these rare beauties and if it wasn't for a local photographer I met a week before in Quebec photographing these owls I never would have found him/her.
We assumed that the photographer was photographing an owl deep in the field, driving by we seen that this owl was on a tree about 15 - 20 feet from the side of the road! As i approached slowly, I hoped I could manage at least one shot with direct eye contact and it happened!
These rare beauties visit us every 4-5 years, and I am beyond blessed to have seen so many different great gray owls this time around ♥
