If you look at the image before this one, this is the same owl, he looked so small and perfectly white while perched in the tree, in flight you can see more of his markings and just how incredibly his wingspan is
Earlier this week a dear friend took me out to search for the snowy owls.
Before I left his truck I said outloud to him I need to see that male snowy owl in a tree. I kept repeating this over and over again with great exuberance.
For some reason seeing a snowy owl in a tree, for me, is the bees knees, because there are no trees in the arctic!
Entering the field there was a photographer acquaintance and I said to him oh I so have to photograph this owl in a tree, Ive been aching for this dream shot for 5 years now.
No word of a lie, the male snowy owl (noticeably smaller and faster than the female owl, and the male is mostly all white with very few black barred markings) flew into a tree directly in front of me within 10 minutes of being in his field!!!
My heart was pounding so fast, I could barely swallow. after I took many shots I was ecstatic! it was like someone injected me with rocket fuel and all my lyme symptoms went away:)
It was a very good day:)

Dedicated to Steve, thank you for the pep talk this morning, for putting things into perspective for me as you always do in ways in which no one can!
