Description
This photo was taken in January 2018. Not the best photo in terms of quality & light, but this is when I first discovered and see this beautiful Northern Hawk Owl flying to his caches.
You see what this day time hunting owl does is cache (sort of like stashing or stock piling) his food. He uses tree cavities, corners & crevices to store his prey in.
In this shot here, he was perched on the tree like a wood pecker would be trying to retrieve his frozen solid prey from his pantry. It was so cold as he tried to retrieve his frozen solid prey from his cache that his talons where gripped tightly into the tree and he used his wings to balance as he worked on getting his meal.
I have never learned so much about a species nor have I even fallen so deeply in awe with such an owl :)
