Going out searching for snowy owls is not as easy as one thinks.
This was done a few weeks back at around 7am in the morning with a temperature of minus 30 and 25 km/hr winds. the snow and fog you see in this photo was so strong, so bitterly cold, that one had to turn away every few moments to avoid direct contact (in fear of frostbite)
I remember I met a man a sweet elderly man a few years ago who travelled here for the great gray owls, he dropped his glove for under 60 seconds and actually got frostbite on his finger from under a minute of skin contact with the snow and vengeful winter winds.
This juvenile snowy most definitely is from the snowy momma goddess lineage, but with many visits, careful observation, comparing the last 5 years of photographs, this is not her. She is very cute and strong, the only snowy I had seen in that area for a long time, thus the title 'sole survivor'

Your story behind this is so touching and reveals how much effort it takes to capture an image like this, Heather. This reminds me of a You Tube documentary on Snowy Owls I saw just yesterday! These creatures never cease to amaze me! FAV jerry
Heather King replied:
